Creating the Master Suite of Your Dreams
If you’re been thinking about creating the master suite of your dreams, there’s no time like the present to consider your options and take action. At Potter Contracting, we find that many couples have scrimped and saved over the years to give their children many things. Whether you are an empty nester or parents to a busy family, a master suite can provide you with welcome space and creature comforts you desire.
As you get started, it’s a good idea to make a list of the things you would like in a master suite. Of primary importance is the amount of space you wish to dedicate to this area of your home. Do you have enough space already and just need to reconfigure it? Do you need to combine your current bedroom with another room of the house to create your suite? Will you need to build an addition on to your home to accommodate your needs?
Part of determining the overall space you will need is to think about the size of the sleeping area you wish to create. In addition, will you have a separate sitting area or perhaps an adjoining sitting room? How big would you like your walk-in closets? How large will your bathroom be? Will you share one bathroom or have speparate his and hers bathrooms?
Once you have considered the overall size, it is good to think about specific details of your master suite area:
Bedroom: Do you want to incorporate architectural features such as a tray ceiling, crown moulding, built in shelves and cabinets, or a raised platform for your bed? What about ceiling fans and built-in lighting? Have you considered a fireplace?
Bathroom: Would you like to have both a shower and a soaking tub? What type of plumbing and lighting fixtures would you like? Would you like to have radiant heat under the bathroom flooring? What type of tile would you like on your floor? Would you like tile in other areas such as the shower and around the soaking tub?
Sitting Room: What would you like your sitting room to include? Would you like it to have multi-media capabilites so you can watch television and listen to music? Would you like to have built-in bookcases and cabinets? Would you like it to include a fireplace?
Closets: What special features would you like in your closets? Do you have special lighting in mind? What type of built-ins do you need to match your lifestyle? What about space for shoes, hanging dresses, suits and formal wear? Will you need special areas to store seasonal clothing?
