Kitchen Remodeling

Cuytom KitchenKitchens bring families and friends together like no other part of a home can. It’s the hub of activity, and must be able to accommodate a wide range of uses. That’s why people put so much time and energy into their dreams for a new kitchen.

For more than 30 years, Potter Contracting has been helping people design and build the kitchen they’ve always wanted. Based on our experience, we’d like to offer some helpful advice as you dream of your new kitchen. We’ll be happy to work with you to create your new kitchen, and would like to offer some advice and information to help you get started.

Formulating Your Ideas

To begin with, it’s important to have a heart-to-heart conversation with yourself, and your spouse or partner from the outset to get your expectations on the table. What do you like? What don’t you like? How much money do you have in your budget for your kitchen project? How do you see yourself using the kitchen in the future? If you have to make some compromises with your spouse or partner — or in your budgeting — what things are “must haves” or priorities? What things are “deal-breakers?”

As you formulate your thoughts about your kitchen, you should be open to ideas from a wide range of sources. Some of the most common sources of ideas are:

  • Kitchens of your friends, neighbors and relatives: These are great sources of inspiration and decision making. You can not only see a range of kitchen cabinets, flooring, hardware, countertops, sinks, faucets, appliances, and the like — but you can also ask these people what they like about their kitchens, what they would do differently, and what suggestions they may have for you
  • Media, such as television shows and magazines: Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words. There are many TV shows these days that feature beautiful homes, home makeovers, and remodeling. Likewise, there are numerous magazines. These are all great sources of information and ideas. Be sure to watch, check things out and take notes.
  • The Internet: You’re doing this right now, so how much do we really have to say about it? Look around, gather ideas and jot them down!
  • A reputable contractor: We’re always happy to brainstorm with people. We always provide our initial consultation free of charge. Other contractors may offer similar services. Be sure to ask any contractor for references or testimonials regarding their work.
